Sarah 109

Watching waves in Nouakchott

Sarah 111

Somewhere back there is an oasis- are we nutts for trying to find it?

Sarah 112

With a little luck an a found friend, we made it to Tergit

Sarah 114

Sarah 115

Oasis tucked into a little corner

Sarah 123

Camels

Sarah 126

Collecting water as it dripped (fresh and cool) out of the mountain

Sarah 127

Or just drinking it straight from the source! (slightly less efficient, though...)

Sarah 129

Dinner with Driss

Sarah 145

Palm trees reflected in oasis waters

Sarah 154

Off in search of cave paintings with no directions... "where are we going?"

Sarah 156

Finally found them...

Sarah 158

Even though we passed them twice...

Sarah 161

...somehow not noticing the giant arrows pointing towards them!

Sarah 167

Old family libraries in Chinguetti

Finding the rhythm

Sarah 204

Sarah 205

Sidi, a PC host-brother, decided to come with us

Sarah 206

Dunes, dunes, and more dunes

Sarah 209

It was a good thing Sidi came too, because our camel guide spoke nothing but Hassiniya

Sarah 211

Sarah 215

The oasis where we spent the night

Sarah 220

Brewing attaya, Mauritanian style (don't tell my friends in The Gambia, but it was MUCH nicer!)

Sarah 223

Sarah 228

Wells are surprisingly shallow (less than 10 feet down to water)

Sarah 229

Lazing around after attaya

Sarah 235

Sand angels

Sarah 238

good way to get LOTS of sand in your hair!

Sarah 240

Gala, our oasis

Sarah 250

Sunset over Gala

Sarah 255

evening fire

Sarah 266

Our camel guide makes sand bread (flour, water, salt: mix well, and put it STRAIGHT into the sand underneath the fire for about 10 minutes). Dense, but good.

Sarah 277

Getting goofy by the fire. Sidi does an EXCELLENT camel impression!

Sarah 281

Driving to Choum

Sarah 285

Rocky desert

Sarah 287

Driss again- our adopted Moroccan father, he really took us under his wing.

Sarah 297

Sarah 301

Sarah 303

Waiting for the world's longest train, which should come at 6pm...

Sarah 304

Sarah 307

The iron ore train goes from Zouerat to Noadhibout every day

Sarah 308

Just spent the night with 2.5 km of iron
